About Solace Tuition
Perfect Practice Makes Perfect
We're a network of tutors based in the Greater Sydney region. We're breaking away from the conventional "big classroom, copy off the whiteboard" approach and focus instead on our student's learning.
That's why we cap our classes at 3 students to maximize each students' learning potential. We also create the classes to match the student's level and syllabus for their school (e.g. addressing their assessment tasks), maximizing the relevancy of the content taught in the class.
We also offer 1on1 lessons for students who need that extra bit of support. We'll even let you pick the tutor you'd like from a selection of tutor profiles.
We offer 4 modes of delivery for our lessons:
-
our Centre
-
your Home
-
a Local Library
-
Online
To supplement our lessons, or to use completely on its own, we have online LMS courses for our most popular subjects.
At Solace, we know that "practice makes perfect" isn't necessarily true. While many tutoring services only provide questions to practice on, we understand the importance of explaining concepts properly — in order to "perfect" that "practice"
We've adopted a simple 4-step LEAP strategy.
1. Learn
2. Example
3. Answer
4. Practice
1. Learn
We explain the concept to students, showing where it comes from and how it works.
2. Example
We show students how to apply this concept to questions.
3. Answer
We ask the students to explain to us how they would answer a question with this concept. This allows us to see how well they have understood the concept, and we can clarify further for them.
4. Practice
Once there is adequate understanding, we can proceed to a few practice questions in class.
Practice questions will be given in homework to cement their understanding. (short term)
Quizzes, tests and past papers (for Year 12s specifically) will refresh their understanding. (long term)
We find that most conventional tutoring institutions move on to Step 4 prematurely. This leads students to practice questions with flawed understanding, which is harmful to their progress and marks. Hence, we aim to "perfect" understanding before engaging in the "practice" stage.
